Thanks, David! When I arrived, Matt Hogan was on site, and there were 30 birds present in the field. After enjoying good long looks, Matt left, and I eventually headed to the platform. While scanning that field from the platform, a cloud of white flew through my scope, which I had fully zoomed to see if I could pick up the avocets from there. At that point I assumed the cloud had been Bonaparte's Gulls or Caspian Terns. But, when I returned to Kitchen Road to take another look before leaving - the flock had more than doubled! I think the cloud of white had been another flock of avocets flying in. I counted twice and got 76 the first time, 77 the second time. Decided to go with a count of 76. In this picture there are over 60. Best I could do with my iPhone through my scope.
